About Us

A solo practice, run by a pediatrician who lives three minutes from the office.

Meet Dr. Abby Maidlow

I’m a Michigander through and through. I grew up in Saline, and if you’re familiar with the area, my maiden name, Rentschler, might ring a bell thanks to the Rentschler Farm Museum downtown. After high school I headed south to the University of Alabama, where I ran cross country, made some wonderful friends, and had some pretty unforgettable adventures, including running from San Francisco to New York with 4K for Cancer.

As much as I loved Alabama (Roll Tide), Michigan eventually called me home, to my family, the Wolverines, and the communities I grew up loving. I attended Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and then completed my pediatric residency at the University of Michigan. My training took me all around the state, with stops in East Lansing, Flint, Waterford, and Canton, before my husband and I finally put down roots right here in Belleville with our two dogs, Rosie and Matilda.

I chose pediatrics for a lot of reasons, but first and foremost: kids are the best. They’re fun, resilient, kind, goofy, loving, and hopeful, all the things that make caring for them so rewarding. I love that being a pediatrician means I get to teach kids and families about their health, along with the occasional random animal fact that makes for good trivia, focus on prevention, and care for the whole child, including both their physical and mental health. Most of all, I love getting to know a child and their family over time. I see my role as your pediatrician as a partnership: to celebrate the good moments with you, help your family through the challenging ones, and be someone you know you can lean on.

Outside of the office, you’ll find me out and about in Belleville. I love running through downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods, and on summer weekends there’s a good chance you’ll find my husband and me out on the lake waterskiing. We also love scuba diving and spending time outdoors, and I’m always happiest when there’s an adventure on the calendar. At home, I enjoy relaxing with a good Sudoku puzzle or watching a movie with my Cavachon, Rosie, and Golden Retriever, Matilda. So if you see me running through town or out on the lake, be sure to say hi.

How we practice

  • Consistent care. You see Dr. Maidlow every visit. Knowing a child over years is what lets a pediatrician catch the thing that is off.
  • Evidence based. We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics, and we are always happy to talk through why.
  • Unrushed. Longer appointments are the whole reason this practice exists. You will not feel like you are on a stopwatch.
  • Personal. A partnership with your family, not a transaction. We are here for the good moments and the hard ones.

Ages we care for

Newborns through age 21. We help older teens transition to an adult provider when the time comes, and we make the introduction rather than just handing over a chart.

Why Belleville

We love Belleville. My husband and I have always been water people. Swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing, you name it, we probably love it. But after moving here, we quickly fell in love with the community just as much as the lake.

Everyone we’ve met has been incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home, whether inviting us to Lake Fest, the weekly car show, or something else happening around town. With our family nearby in Saline and Milan, Belleville has become the perfect place for us to put down roots.

When it came time to open my own practice, I couldn’t imagine a better place to do it. I hope Belleville Lake Pediatrics becomes a meaningful part of this community and a welcoming place for families throughout Belleville and beyond.
